For ParentsHello to all parents, teachers and friends.Ultimate Frisbee is a fantastic sport for young people and we hope that you can get to experience the joys of having your juniors playing Ultimate Frisbee. This page provides some background on Ultimate Frisbee for parents (& teachers). By helping you to understand what it means for your kids to play this sport we hope you will become a very enthusiastic supporter of Ultimate. How can Ultimate Frisbee benefit my kid? Ultimate Frisbee involves a lot of running & jumping, & is a great way to get fit. The skills required to throw and catch the Frisbee are great for developing a child's motor skills & hand-eye coordination. Also, the sport's unique 'Spirit of the Game' firmly encourages the development of your child's integrity & self-discipline (see below). What is Spirit of the Game? Ultimate Frisbee is a self-refereed sport at all levels. Players are responsible for deciding when the rules have been infringed. This Spirit of the Game is the principle also used to decide the world champion! Giving children responsibility for making their own calls on the field leads to them developing greater maturity and socialization skills. They realize that in sport winning isn't everything and that it is possible to play a hard game against another team and still remain friendly with them after the game. Why does my child like Ultimate Frisbee?
Most importantly, the greatest thing you can give your child is your emotional support.
Many parents already play in the various city leagues. You will find the league is welcoming of all players, regardless of how old you are or how fit you feel- it's a great social atmosphere. You could even put together a parent’s team from your kid's school. Who can I talk to find out more? Rahim (Uncle Ra) is always available to answer your queries.
