The Growth of Ultimate Frisbee in Singapore Schools from 2003 - 2008
Singapore Frisbeesports (SFS) is due for its yearly report! This time however, we'd like to sum up our achievements over the past 5 years.
It's been a great 2008. This year, 30 schools (2400 participants) took up Frisbee Introduction Program (FIP). We've got schools from primary and all the way to Junior College level. Out of 30 schools, 12 schools regularly take up the FIP for the students. The others are trying out FIP for the first time. It's been 5 years since we launched FIP, with the aim to promote game of Ultimate Frisbee in schools and the public arena. This has been endorsed by Singapore Sports Council (SSC) and is part of Ministry of Education (MOE) Sports Education Programme.

More tournaments are being organized regularly, ranging from primary level and up all the way to tertiary level. The last tourneys you heard were probably the Youth Ultimate Frisbee Championship and the Asian Beach Ultimate Championship.

Finally, who can forget the exciting weekend in October 4 and 5 when SFS brought elite teams together, to take part in this year's Asian Beach Ultimate Championship, held at Sentosa. Teams from around the region came to sunny Singapore, more precisely, Sentosa, played their hearts out. If you were not there, it was one EXCITING final between Borocay A and Borocay B.

On a side note, more juniors, youths and working adults are taking up the sport, so that means it'll be easier for you to find a place to join pick-up. Perhaps, this might be due to a new product SFS launched in 2008 - Team Building through Ultimate Frisbee, which got more people interested in Ultimate Frisbee. Organizations would hire us to teach staff the basics of Ultimate Frisbee and through that, staff develop teamwork, responsibility, discipline on top of physical development and leadership development.

We're actively promoting Ultimate Frisbee in the region and currently are working closely with our Malaysian and Philippines counterparts to promote Frisbee to the young. We will be bringing some of their players to attend our annual Coaching course and perhaps work here for a few months to gain experience. With this, we'll have more players training to become Ultimate Frisbee instructors.

Well, that's the recap and here's our promise to you of our mission over the next 3 years. As if we're not already doing it, we're going continue to promote the sport to the young, the women and the working adults, through road show, clinics and camps. This year, we did a trial and conducted the sport to the 7 and 8 year old Raffles Girls' Primary School students and it was a success! We hope our success continues and more people take up the sport.
We'll also sponsor the youth teams, mainly in jerseys and tournament fees. More details will be out early next year. We're also looking at assisting Youth groups/teams to organized Ultimate Frisbee tournaments of their own. If you have any queries, do drop us an email at contact@sgfrisbeesports.com
Keep a lookout for all these to come. Watch this space!
